听力原文: One of the biggest surveys of public opinion ever conducted around the world suggests that only 30 percent of people feel that their country is governed by the Will of people. The Gallup international Voice of the People 2005 poll commissioned by the BBC questioned more than 51 thousand people in 68 countries. Only in Scandinavia and South Africa did the majority say they believe that they are governed according to their wishes. A little under half of those questioned globally thought elections in their countries were free and fair. Only 13 percent said they trusted politicians and at least 20 percent wanted more power to go to other groups, such as intellectuals.

听力原文:M: Hi, Mary. Do you want to start writing a lab report after we finish this experiment?W: I can't. In fact I need to finish early because I'm going over to the psychology department to talk to Professor Smith about a job opening.M: You mean a job on campus?W: Yeah. And it sounds pretty interesting. It involves helping with your study on learning style. You know, about how some people learn best by sight, while others learn best by hearing or touch.M: Yeah. I know that's an area of expertise.W: Right. Anyway for her study she's taking some high school students who aren't doing very well in their classes and testing them to find out what their learning styles are. Then tutors, people like me, will work with them presenting material to them in their particular learning style.M: Hey. That is interesting. Now will you mostly do the testing or the tutoring?W: Both I hope. I want to be involved from start to finish.M: Are you getting paid for this?W: I'm sure we'll get something though, probably not much. Anyway it doesn't matter to me, I just want to have some hands-on experience.M: Yeah. And it'll be nice to help those high school students too.W: That's what I thought when I saw the ad. You know you could do it too. You don't have to be in her classes to work on the study.M: Really? Do you have any idea what the schedule is like?W: Late afternoon then evening for tutoring I think. After all the kids are in regular classes until three thirty.M: Actually that's perfect for me.W: Then come along. We will save the lab report for later. But we'd better make sure we do a good job on our experiment first.M: Yeah. First thing's first. What are the speakers mainly discussing?A.A chemistry assignment.B.A study that their chemistry professor did.C.A class that the woman is taking.D.A job possibility.

Listen to the conversations carefully and then answer the questions that follow.听力原文:W: Hi, John.M: Oh, hi, Laura. What are you doing here?W: Uh, I'm usually here on weekends. It's my dad's shop. So, you are looking for a bike?M: Yeah. Now the weather is warming up. I thought I'd get some exercise instead of taking the bus all the time.W: Well, you came to the right place. Do you know what you'd like?M: Well, I don't want a racer or a touring bike or anything. Mostly I'll just be using it to get me back and forth from work.W: How far is that?M: About four miles.W: Are there a lot of hills on the way?M: Some I guess. But, um, maybe I should just tell you in front that I've only got a hundred and fifty dollars. Can I get anything decent for that?W: Well, you're not going to get anything top of the line. But we do have a few trade-ins in the back that are in good condition.M: That sounds good.W: And you're right. For the kind of riding you're going to be doing, the most important thing is comfort. You want to make sure it's the right height for you.
